Our Tech Spotlight for this month is Hydroemission, a young Singaporean material science company that has developed a proprietary, intelligent, controlled release technology platform. This is a very versatile, cost-effective, technology and has applications in a wide range of industry sectors. Applications range from pesticides to sanitation and ambient scenting.
The company was founded in 2003, by Grace Chew, with the vision to deploy the controlled released technologies – primarily used in the pharmaceutical industry- to industrial applications. Sustainability and eco-friendliness have also been core values for the company.
The company has developed a technology platform that allows active ingredients to be released at a predefined rate and duration to bring about the desired treatment effects, without the use of machinery or equipment.
What is controlled release technology? Take a look at the video below to find out more about the Hydroemission technology:
The key benefits of the Hydroemission technology are:
Flexible - Able to encapsulate practically any actives, ranging from powders to gels or liquids, with up to an 80% payload. They also offer a high degree of release profile manipulation capability.
Non-invasive – Processing is carried out at ambient temperatures (20 – 30 °C) and pressures (5 – 50 psi), maintaining the integrity of actives.
Cost-effective - They are produced using a proprietary extrusion-based approach which reduces production costs.
Biodegradable – Controlled release matrixes are fully biodegradable, to ensure complete compatibility with the application’s environment.
Scalable – Manufacturing processes are simple and cost effective, enabling quick and easy product scale-up.
Consistent – Actives are released at a constant rate over time.
Hydroemission have received business support from IPI Singapore, which has helped the company connect with established market players. This has led to collaborations and the co-development of unique controlled release products for use in specific industrial segments.
The technology has proved to be very appropriate for the Agri-tech sector and Hydroemission are working with partners to develop and commercialise, integrated agricultural pest management solutions. The technology is very flexible and has been implemented in other sectors including condensate and cooling water treatment, grease remediation, ambient scenting, odour management, air purification and oil mining.
With operations split between Singapore and Malaysia, Hydroemission supports its partners from R&D to prototyping and OEM production.
We look forward to see what Hydroemission does next!
